What you need to bring - Personal Effects

Although Fowlers Bay is on the Southern Ocean, it comes as a surprise to a lot of our guests that our latitude is well north of Perth in the west and Port Macquarie (north of Sydney) to the east - both considered "temperate" climates. Despite this, our weather is often one of extremes with summer days often exceeding 40C and still winter mornings producing temperatures below freezing.

With that in mind, your personal effects need to be "mix and match" based on at least some of the advice below. (See Fishing Gear for a list of fishing gear/equipment.)

ALL Season

  • Minimum shower kit should include towel, soap, shampoo, comb, toothbrush and toothpaste. You may want a razor too.
  • We supply all bedding but you may have a favourite pillow/teddy bear that you wish to bring!
  • Alcohol is BYO. We can assist you in supply/resupply if needed. We supply all cool drinks so Coke etc. not needed.
  • Quality covered shoes are recommended. Snapper spikes, shark and barracouta teeth, hooks, lures and all sorts of paraphernalia might all take their toll when the action is on - and that's just on the boat! Popular shoes are the "crocs" as they protect your feet, are non-slip and waterproof.

During the warm months

  • Hats are mandatory. Broad brim hats with neck covers are a good idea for boat/beach. We recommend the Arafat style hats because they protect your neck, ears and brow from sun, wind and sand. Although popular, baseball style caps are not recommended in extreme conditions.
  • Loose fitting full length clothing, preferably cotton, is also a good idea. Keep colours light as dark colours attract heat more readily.
  • Light waterproof/spray jackets.

During the cool months

  • Waders or wet-suits are often worn on the beach during the cooler periods.
  • You will get wet feet transferring out to Osprey so you may want your waders for this purpose.
  • Good warm jackets, preferably waterproof.
  • Beanies or even balaclavas are popular.
  • Fingerless gloves are great when it's cold.

Miscellaneous

  • Seasickness tablets. Kwells or Dramamine are popular.
  • Sunscreen SPF 30+ is recommended.
  • Quality UV rated (and polarised) sunnies
